Mayflower Hotel Wedding | Ryan & Stephanie
Meet Ryan & Stephanie! These two met in Boston, at a bar/lounge named Whiskey Saigon. Ryan came up to Stephanie at the bar and they exchanged snapchats before their phone numbers. He knew something was special about her and the rest as they say, is history!
Ryan & Stephanie’s wedding day was beautiful for so many reasons. They were married twice in one day, once through a Cambodian wedding and second with an American wedding and reception. They started out their day early in the morning at Stephanie’s family home in Maryland. The house was filled with all of their family and friends swarming around in preparation for the long day ahead. Ryan & Stephanie started things off with three Cambodian ceremonies held back-to-back. Before the first ceremony, Ryan was led to the home in a long parade by his loved ones, bearing gifts for the bride and her family. Greeted and welcomed in with smiles, from Stephanie. Two gongs rang out to signify the arrival of the couple to each part of the wedding and brought laughter every time to all the guests. There were silver trays of fresh fruit, candles, flowers, and gifts covering the floor and placed in front of the bride and groom. We loved all the Cambodian details and documenting these two in their gorgeous outfits, specific to each ceremony. Ryan & Stephanie wore bright, colorful silk pieces for each part of the Cambodian wedding and ended in an all-gold silk outfit to represent royalty. We loved seeing all of their guests faces as they listened in on each event and dined together in celebration. A favorite moment for us was watching Ryan & Stephanie kneeling while their family members came and tied red strings around their wrists, as a way to bestow blessings to them. Another favorite moment was when other married couples gathered and sat circled around them. They took turns passing candles around and waving smoke towards the couple. This represents the passing of blessings from the successful marriages to the newly married couple. And then at the end, guests threw white seeds over Ryan & Stephanie’s heads.
Afterwards, we traveled to Washington D.C. to the Mayflower Hotel, for their American wedding. We were excited to be in the city and the venue was gorgeous. We met up with Ryan & Stephanie for some separate getting ready moments, Mark with the guys and Kelly with the girls, as usual. We always love these moments because everyone is so excited and you can feel the anticipation in the photos. Stephanie looked stunning in her bridal dress and we couldn’t wait for Ryan to see her. We love that they both kept the red strings tied to their wrists from their earlier Cambodian ceremony. Happy tears were shed by both when they exchanged their vows and for the second time that day, they were married! We took advantage of the golden hour and pulled Ryan & Stephanie and their bridal party outside to the streets. We loved the energy and excitement of everyone and felt blessed to be a part of their big day. The bride and groom got to have a few quiet moments together, standing in the alleyways of Washington D.C. and reminiscing on all that had taken place. We loved watching them together officially as newly husband and wife.
They greeted each of their guests with a grand entrance into their reception and danced the night away with all of their family and friends. What an exciting day!
Ryan & Stephanie, thank you for sharing these moments with us and allowing us to capture your day. We hope you guys had an amazing honeymoon in Dubai and can’t wait to see where your next adventures lead you!
